Artist Statement | Harmani J. | Blue Magnolia Art
Harmani J. is a self taught visual artist and the founder of Blu Magnolia Art, a New Orleans born creative brand rooted in culture, storytelling, and southern soul. She began painting at the age of fifteen and launched her professional career by eighteen, working primarily with acrylic on canvas to capture the rhythm, color, and legacy of Louisiana life.
Her work explores New Orleans through portraits, jazz icons, street scenes, landscapes, and childhood memories. Each piece serves as a preservation of place, honoring the spirit of her hometown while uplifting the people and stories that shaped it.
In 2018, Harmani J. became the youngest and first female artist to design the official Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club Mardi Gras poster. She has live painted at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Gala and received recognition from the Louisiana State Museum’s Jazz Exhibition as well as the Red River Revel Festival.
Through Blu Magnolia Art, Harmani J. continues to merge community, heritage, and visual storytelling, creating work that reflects and speaks to the soul of New Orleans.
