Born in London, Dean Fox studied fine art and illustration at the prestigious Central Saint Martins school of art and design. Following his degree, Fox pursued a career as a visualiser, producing visual story boards and conceptual art within the advertising and gaming sector. This experience fostered his professional approach to his artistic practice, while it enabled him to hone his skills as a draftsman and knowledge of anatomy, which would later play out within his own creativity. After many years as a visualizer, and with the passion to push his own creativity, Fox returned to his roots of traditional oil painting. His work generally plays on deconstructing classical themes, minimalizing the subjects, and abstracting them. These approaches combined with desaturated colour palettes lead to a beautiful exploration and reinvention of his passion for classical art. The interplay of complementaries between abstraction and objectivity in Fox’s work is always the central focus and he feels strongly that this balance is important through all aspects of art and life in general. Fox’s evocative new works explore unknown places blurred between our present moment and the past, the transience of time. These exceptional works, blending muted and minimalist fields of color with sweeping gestures and hints of stories untold, unveil a sublime sense of
contemporary classicism.

“As an artist, I spend long hours of time alone. Working on artwork is like a meditative experience. On one hand, I am totally focused on the task at hand. On the other, I am able to witness or observe my thoughts passing without any engagement with them. I think being comfortable in your aloneness is important for everyone. People generally think they don’t have time to be still in their busy lives, but this situation has forced everyone into isolation. I just hope people use this time well. For me it has given me an even greater chance to really focus on my art, question why am I producing and to be as authentic as I can. I thrive in my own space and want to use this time to create the best work I can. The world seems very contradictory at the moment. There is a silence in the air, no sounds of cars or planes where I live, only the laughter of children playing none the wiser which is beautiful. The sun decided to shine, and the skies became clear, yet there is a deep
fear amongst everyone and so much death happening daily. For me, it has made me reflect on what really is important as an artist or person in general.” - Dean Fox, June 2020.
