New Orleans, Proud to Call it Home Works from the Estate of Shirley Rabe Masinter is the first exhibition of the artist’s work since her passing in 2023 at the age of ninety. This exhibition will span the artist’s career, featuring works from early in her professional career, from the 1980s up to the 2020s.

Shirley Rabe Masinter started creating photo-realist works in the 1980s, looking to the topography and culture of New Orleans for her subject matter. Her works are suffused with a sense of nostalgia and remembrances, sometimes disturbing and gritty.  Masinter created a vision and a style that tells of her city: its beauty, its mystery, its fascination with the celebration of life and death. In the 1990s, her works focused on  New Orleans’ inner city and its cemeteries. These works are not literal “slices of life”  captured at random on the city streets; instead, each is a synthesis or construction representing her vision of the places depicted. Her work is included in the collections of the Morris Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art,  The Mississippi Museum of Art, The Huntsville Museum of Art and the Louisiana State Museum.
